Explore Panel

You can use the 'Explore' panel to navigate the repository and explore its contents. Most repositories will contain thousands - if not tens of thousands - of elements, and having tools to navigate through and locate items of interest is critical when working in the repository. There are a number of Browsers that are tree views, showing the hierarchical relationships of Packages (folders), elements, diagrams, features, resources, views, items and more. The 'Properties' option provides access to a collection of windows that provide information about the model and system activity. They provide a rich set of methods for viewing information about elements as you navigate through them in diagrams or the Project Browser. The Notes window provides descriptive text, the Summary window lists the important aspects of an element and the Properties window provides details of an element's metadata and more. The 'Trace' option provides facilities for following relationships and linkages between elements through the model. The Search helps you to find elements, diagrams and Packages regardless of their location.

  • Team Library - use to review and add to a hierarchically-structured repository of comments, reports, reviews and documents on any structure, feature or aspect of the project or of other, related projects
  • Model Views - use to capture information on the objects in your model from different aspects that you define yourself, helping you to encapsulate your model under the areas in which you are interested
  • Resources - a repository of project-standard and re-usable document generation templates, MDG Technologies, Relationship Matrix profiles, commonly-used model elements, stylesheets, UML Profiles and Patterns, with facilities for creating and modifying these structures and facilities and, in some cases, for applying the facility to the current model directly from the window
  • System Output - displays the data that Enterprise Architect generates during each of a range of processes; the data from each type of operation generally has its own window tab

  • Traceability - helps you follow the connections in a chain of elements, starting with a single element to establish the dependencies radiating from that element
  • Relationship Matrix - shows how sets of elements in one Package are linked to each other, or to elements in another Package, and helps you to add and delete relationships where necessary
  • Gap Analysis Matrix - helps you explore the implementation of features in the model, and identify potential gaps between solution architectures
