Create a Data Model from a Model Pattern
The easiest way to create a Data Modeling workspace is to use the predefined Database Model Patterns. Enterprise Architect provides a Pattern for each DBMS supported by the system, containing a number of settings specifically for Data Modeling such as connector notation and setting the DBMS at the Package level.

Notes
· | For each Database Management System you are modeling, two child Packages are created under the selected Package in the Project Browser: Logical Model will be empty, and a Package that is automatically given the name of the DBMS will contain a child Package for each database object that the selected DBMS supports, such as Database Functions, Procedures, Tables and Views |
· | Data modeling diagrams generated from a Model Pattern default to the notation IDEF1X; those created through the New Diagram dialog default to Information Engineering |
· | At this point you can begin to develop your model in one of two ways: |
· | Through the Project Browser and diagrams, working more freely across the model as you need to (topics within the Physical Data Model section) |
· | Through the Database Builder, constructing the model using the structure and support of the Database Builder wizard (topics within the Database Builder section) |
Any structures you create through the Project Browser and diagrams will be automatically represented in the Database Builder; however, structures created in the Database Builder are not automatically added to your diagrams - you must place them in the appropriate diagram manually
